Before you apply

Keeping the credential current

PCL-AI runs on a three-year cycle (USD 99 recertification fee). You will need your credential ID, a CPD record meeting the framework, and continued agreement to the ethics code. Apply in the final year of your cycle; your expiry date is on your credential record and dashboard.

Lapsed recently? Say so in the application — there is a route back that does not always require re-examination, decided under the recertification policy rather than discretion.

Preparation

Getting your CPD record ready

The strength of a recertification application is the CPD record behind it. Reviewers are looking for evidence of genuine, continuing engagement with the discipline — not a burst of activity in the final month of the cycle. A strong record shows:

  • Spread — activity across the three-year cycle, not concentrated at the deadline.
  • Mix — different types of development: structured learning, practice, contribution to the profession, self-directed study.
  • Evidence — something verifiable behind each entry: a certificate, an agenda, a published piece, a work product.
  • Relevance — a line or two on how each activity kept your project-controls competence current, including how your use of AI tools has stayed governed and up to date.

The CPD Policy defines what counts and in what proportion; recording activity as you go via the CPD submission route makes the application at cycle end almost effortless.

The process

What happens after you apply

Applications are acknowledged promptly and checked first for completeness — credential details, the CPD record, and your confirmation of continued adherence to the Code of Ethics. The CPD record is then reviewed against the published requirements. If something falls short, you are told exactly what and given the chance to supply it, rather than being refused outright. On approval, your credential's validity is extended for the next cycle and your registry record is updated, so verification checks reflect your renewed status. Apply before your cycle ends: renewing in good time keeps the credential continuously valid, with no gap for an employer's verification check to find.

Keep your own copy of the submitted record. It becomes the starting point for planning the next cycle, and the habit of maintaining it is itself the simplest form of professional development discipline.

Common questions

Renewal questions, answered

Do I have to re-sit the examination to renew?

The standard renewal route is through documented CPD, as described on the recertification overview. The Recertification Policy is the definitive statement of what each route requires.

My cycle has already lapsed — is the credential gone?

Not necessarily, but do not wait longer. Contact PCI as soon as possible; the Recertification Policy sets out how lapsed credentials are handled, and options narrow the longer a lapse continues.

Checklist

Documents and details you’ll need

Have ready: your credential ID (on your certificate and dashboard), a CPD record covering the cycle with reflections per the framework, and confirmation your contact details are current — the renewed credential and registry entry flow to them.

The USD 99 fee is payable on application; approval renews for three years from expiry, not from payment date, so applying early never costs you time. Sampled CPD verification may follow — keep evidence retrievable for the cycle.
