Our current status
PCI is a new, independent certification body. We are building our certification scheme to be ready for accreditation to ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard for bodies operating certification of persons.
What we claim — and don't
We describe the scheme as ‘developed with reference to ISO/IEC 17024 personnel-certification principles’ and accreditation as ‘in progress’. We never state or imply that PCI is accredited until an accreditation body has formally granted it.

What accreditation is — and why it takes time
Accreditation is independent recognition that a certification body meets a recognised standard — for personnel certification, that standard is ISO/IEC 17024. It is granted by an accreditation body (such as ANAB or IAS), not claimed by the institute itself, and it is earned by demonstrating that a body's processes are impartial, competence-based and well-governed over time.
A body cannot hold that recognition on day one, and should not imply it does. The credible path is to design the credential and its processes around the standard from the outset, operate them, and then seek formal accreditation — which is exactly what PCI is doing.
How to judge us in the meantime
- By what we claim. We say plainly that we are not yet accredited — hold us to that honesty.
- By the design of the standard. The credential, competency model and assessment are built with reference to ISO/IEC 17024 principles.
- By our transparency. We are candid about what is in place and what is still being established, and publish no figures we cannot stand behind.
- By the rigour of the credential. An independent, scenario-based, criterion-referenced assessment, separated from training — the substance behind the badge.

How to check any certification body's claims
Accreditation claims are easy to make and — if you know where to look — straightforward to verify. Whether you are weighing up PCI or any other certification body, the same checks apply, and we encourage you to run them on us.
- Check the accreditor's register, not the body's website. Accreditation bodies publish public directories of whom they have accredited and for what scope. A claim that cannot be found in the accreditor's own register is only a claim.
- Read the wording precisely. Phrases such as 'developed with reference to' or 'built to align with' — including ours — describe design intent, not granted recognition. Accreditation exists only once a named accreditation body has formally awarded it.
- Ask to see the scheme. A serious body can point to a documented certification scheme, an impartiality policy and an independent appeals route without hesitation.
- Look at who trains and who assesses. Where one organisation both trains candidates and profits from passing them, ask how that conflict of interest is controlled.

If PCI becomes accredited later, what happens to my credential?
Certificates already issued remain governed by the published certification scheme. If accreditation is granted, this page will state plainly what it covers and from what date — we will not blur that line retrospectively.
Should I wait for accreditation before enrolling?
That is your judgement, and we will not pressure it. What you can weigh today is the published scheme, the examination design and the governance behind them — our founding status page sets out exactly what is in place now.
How will I know if PCI's status changes?
This page is the authoritative statement of our accreditation position and is updated whenever that position changes. If wording anywhere else ever appears to say more than this page does, this page prevails.
