Publications.

Papers, reports and guides from the Institute.

Overview

PCI’s publications bring together its papers, reports and guides in one place — from white papers and industry reports to knowledge guides — all openly available and grounded in the discipline PCI certifies.

Publications brings together the institute's more formal written output in one place — the standard and its supporting documents, guidance on the discipline and on governing AI within it, and substantive pieces intended to last rather than to trend. It is the considered end of the institute's writing.

What you will find here is meant to be authoritative and practical: clear statements of what the credential certifies and why; guidance that helps professionals apply the discipline and govern AI responsibly; and material that supports candidates, members and employers in using the standard well. Quality and accuracy come before quantity.

The collection grows as the institute does. that means starting with the essentials and adding depth over time — with the community's needs, and the evolution of practice, guiding what gets published next.

How it grows

This develops as the institute matures, and PCI makes no claims beyond what is true today.

Common questions

Are publications free?

Yes — openly available.

Who are they for?

They are aimed at the people who do, lead, or are moving into project-controls work — professionals planning their careers, and employers planning their teams' capability. The material is written to be useful to a practitioner facing real decisions rather than to a general audience, while staying accessible to those newer to the field.

How does it relate to the credential?

It informs and reflects the body of knowledge that the PCL-AI credential certifies. The standard, the resources and the assessment are kept aligned deliberately, so that what you engage with here connects directly to what the credential recognises — the integrated controls discipline, with AI governance as a first-class part of it.

Why this matters

This matters because a credential earns its value from substance, not marketing — clear standards, fair process, transparent governance and honesty about status. Everything in the institute's resources is written to that test: genuinely useful to professionals and employers, and never claiming more than is true today.

PCI builds in the open. That means being candid about what is in place and what is still developing, refusing to publish invented data or figures it cannot stand behind, and letting the community shape what gets prioritised. Trust, earned this way, is harder to lose.

  • Substance over marketing
  • Fair, transparent process
  • Honesty about our status
  • Responsible, governed use of AI

Editorial standard

How a PCI publication is produced

Every PCI publication follows the same editorial path, whatever its length. A topic is scoped against the body of knowledge so it serves the standard rather than a passing news cycle. It is drafted by people who practise the discipline, then reviewed twice: a technical review that tests the methods, and an honesty review that tests every claim against PCI's own rules — no figure appears that the Institute cannot evidence, and nothing implies a status it does not hold.

Scoped, not chased

Topics are chosen because the discipline needs them — a gap in guidance, a recurring question from candidates or employers — not because they are fashionable. Some pieces take longer as a result.

Reviewed twice

Technical review asks whether the method stands up; honesty review asks whether every statement can be evidenced. A publication that fails either is revised or withheld, not softened into vagueness.

Versioned openly

Each publication carries a date and version. Material corrections are made visibly in a revision note, never silently, so a document you cited last year can be checked against the current text.

Using the library

Getting the most from the collection

How you use these documents depends on where you stand. Candidates should treat publications as context around the body of knowledge — they deepen themes the exam assesses, but they are not a syllabus and reading them is not a shortcut. Practising professionals get the most value from using guides as a benchmark: compare the described practice with your own organisation's, note the gaps, and decide which are worth closing. Structured reading that leads to demonstrable learning can also form part of a professional development record under the CPD framework.

Two practical habits help. Cite publications by title, version and date, and check for a later revision before relying on an older copy. And if you find an error, say so — corrections reach the Institute through the contact page, are acknowledged, and feed the next revision. A library built in the open improves fastest when its readers hold it to the same standard it sets itself.
