Fellowship is the senior grade, for experienced professionals who have shaped practice rather than simply followed it — leaders, mentors and specialists with a sustained record of contribution to project controls. It recognises standing and influence in the field, not merely years served.
With that recognition comes the opportunity to give back: mentoring, leadership, and a part in steering the institute's direction and the standard itself. Fellows help set the bar for the profession — including how it should govern AI responsibly — and lend their experience to the people coming up behind them.

Eligibility
By nomination, for senior professionals with a sustained record of contribution to the discipline and the institute.
Fees & joining
Fellow membership is charged at the individual 3-year-term rate of USD 99 for a 3-year term, currently USD 49.50 with a 50% discount — the same flat individual fee applies across the Student, Associate, Professional and Fellow grades. Yes — grades are designed as a progression; you can move up as your experience and certification grow.
Do I need a PCI certification to be a member?
Not for every grade. Student and Associate grades welcome those still working toward certification.

Fellow membership in depth
Fellow membership is intended to meet professionals where they are in their journey, offering relevant resources, community and recognition without ever implying a certification that has not been earned. Membership and certification are deliberately separate at PCI: one is a development and community relationship, the other a rigorous assessment of capability.
As PCI develops, fellow membership is expected to provide access to knowledge resources, professional community, events and updates on the credential pathway. Final benefits, eligibility and fees are published and enrolment is open — and PCI will describe what membership is, and is not, plainly and honestly.

What distinguished contribution means
Fellowship recognises influence on the profession, not just seniority within it. Years served matter less than what changed because of you. The kinds of contribution the grade exists to recognise include:
- Shaping practice — methods, standards or ways of working that others now use, on projects or across an industry.
- Building people — sustained mentoring, teaching or team-building that raised the capability of other controls professionals.
- Leading under pressure — carrying controls leadership on complex programmes where the discipline was tested and held.
- Advancing the profession's knowledge — writing, research, standards work or professional-body service that moved the discipline forward.
No single profile is required; a distinguished career can be built in any of these directions. What unites Fellows is that their contribution is visible to others, not merely asserted.
How the nomination route works
Fellowship is awarded by nomination rather than ordinary application. A nomination sets out the case — the contribution claimed, and the evidence that supports it — and is assessed under the Fellowship Policy, which defines the criteria and the review process. Evidence carries more weight than adjectives: a standard adopted, teams developed, programmes delivered, work published. Nominations are considered carefully rather than quickly, and every nominee is assessed against the same published criteria regardless of who proposes them.
Fellowship is deliberately a small grade; its value to every Fellow depends on it remaining hard to earn. An unsuccessful nomination is therefore no censure — many strong cases simply need another year or two of visible contribution before they are ready.

Start by reading the Fellowship Policy criteria honestly against your own record, then contact PCI. Most future Fellows are active senior members first — Professional membership is the natural grade to hold while a nomination takes shape.
What is expected of a Fellow once elected?
Fellows carry the institute's most visible designation, and the expectations rise with it: continued adherence to the Code of Ethics, continuing professional development under the CPD framework, and a willingness to give back — mentoring, reviewing, and lending experience to PCI's committees and standards work.
