Overview
A credential is only as trustworthy as the examination behind it. If content leaks or exams can be gamed, every holder's achievement is devalued. PCI treats examination security as a continuous discipline across how items are created, stored, delivered and monitored.

Protecting the item bank
Examination items are confidential intellectual property. Access is limited to authorised, conflict-free personnel; items are stored securely; and exposure is managed so content cannot be predicted or memorised and shared. Items are refreshed and retired on a planned basis.

Detecting and responding to breaches
Potential breaches — including item harvesting, sharing or impersonation — may surface through proctoring, content monitoring, statistical analysis or reports. They are examined under the investigation procedure, and confirmed breaches can lead to invalidated results and sanctions under the sanctions policy.

Can I retake if my result is invalidated for a breach?
Misconduct is handled under the misconduct and sanctions policies, and may remove the right to resit. Genuine candidates retain a right of appeal.
Is remote proctoring as secure as a test centre?
Yes — remote proctoring applies identity verification and monitoring to preserve the same integrity as a centre. See remote proctoring.
What happens to exam recordings?
They are used only to protect integrity, handled under the data-protection policy, and retained no longer than necessary.

Protection at every stage
Examination security is not one control but a chain of them, and the chain is only as strong as its weakest stage. PCI applies distinct protections at each point in an item's life:
Item development
Everyone who writes or reviews exam questions works under confidentiality obligations, and no contributor sees more of the item bank than their role requires.
Item banking
Questions live in controlled storage with restricted access, and exam forms are assembled so that exposure of any one form does not compromise the whole bank.
Delivery
Identity is verified before testing begins, and exams run under invigilated conditions — with remote sessions monitored under the proctoring rules.
After the exam
Response patterns are monitored statistically. Anomalies — improbable agreement between candidates, sudden performance shifts on specific items — trigger review, and compromised items are retired.
Your part in a fair exam
Every candidate is a custodian of the exam's integrity, because every holder's credential is devalued if content leaks. The obligations are few but permanent:
- Keep exam content confidential indefinitely — the duty does not end when you pass
- Do not reconstruct, share or discuss recalled questions, in study groups or online forums
- Refuse material that claims to contain real exam content, and report it — using so-called braindumps is itself a violation, whatever the seller promises
- Follow the published examination rules and identification requirements exactly as written
If you are ever unsure whether a preparation resource is legitimate, ask before using it. Genuine preparation materials teach the competencies; they never promise the questions.
Investigation and consequences
A suspected breach starts a process, not a presumption. Concerns are investigated under PCI's published procedures, with the candidate told what is alleged and given the opportunity to respond. Interim measures — such as withholding a result while the facts are established — may apply, and are protective steps rather than findings of guilt. Where a violation is confirmed, outcomes are proportionate to the breach, ranging from invalidation of a result to exclusion from future examinations under the exam misconduct policy, and every adverse decision carries the right of appeal. The aim throughout is symmetry: rigorous enough that cheating cannot pay, and fair enough that an honest candidate caught in an ambiguous situation gets a genuine hearing.
