Before you write

What makes a complaint easy to act on

A complaint is investigated fastest when the reviewer can reconstruct events without coming back to you for basics. Set out what happened in date order, name the process or interaction involved, and quote any reference numbers from earlier correspondence. Say what the impact on you was, and be specific about the outcome you are seeking — an explanation, a correction, an apology, or a change so the same thing does not happen to someone else. All of those are legitimate asks; knowing which one you want shapes how the review is run.

  • A short chronology with dates
  • References from any earlier emails or acknowledgements
  • The impact on you, stated plainly
  • The outcome you are seeking
Right route

Complaint, appeal or ethics report?

Complaint

A concern about service, process or conduct in the broad sense — how something was handled, communicated or delivered. This form is the right starting point.

Appeal

A challenge to a specific decision — certification, examination or disciplinary — on defined grounds. Use the appeals process, which runs to its own rules and windows.

Ethics report

A concern about the professional conduct or integrity of a member or credential-holder. Raise it as an ethics report so it is examined under the code.

Choosing the wrong door is not fatal — a submission sent to the wrong route is redirected rather than rejected — but starting in the right place saves time.

Fair treatment

Questions people hesitate to ask

Will complaining affect my candidacy or membership?

No. Complaints are handled separately from assessment and membership decisions, and raising one in good faith carries no detriment. A certification body that punished complainants would not deserve the trust it asks for.

Can I raise a complaint on behalf of someone else, or as an organisation?

Yes — employers, colleagues and other third parties can raise concerns. Where the matter affects a specific individual, we may need their consent to share details of the outcome with you.

What if my complaint concerns the person who would normally handle it?

Say so in your submission. The matter is routed to someone independent of everyone involved — impartial handling is the point of the policy, not an optional extra.

Before you submit

What a resolvable complaint contains

Tell us what happened, when, who was involved and what outcome would put it right. Attach anything relevant — emails, references, screenshots. If your concern is really about a decision (a result, an eligibility refusal), it belongs in appeals and we will redirect it there.

Acknowledgement is immediate with a reference; assessment is by someone outside the matter; the reply states findings and any action. Where we were at fault, the fix is logged through corrective action — not just apologised for.
